Diatomite is also known as Diatomaceous Earth, Kieselguhr, Kieselgur, and Celite. It is a naturally occurring, soft, chalk-like, sedimentary rock and is primarily composed of the fossilized remains of unicellular fresh water plants, Diatoms.
The powder has abrasive feeling which is similar to pumice powder. It is very light-weight because of its porosity.

Diatomite Feature

Diatomite is formed by remains of unicellular water plant-diatom which is a non-renewable resources.
The chemical composition of diatomite is SiO2, and the SiO2 content determine diatomite's quality. ,the more the better. Diatomite has some unique properties, such as porosity, lower density, and large specific surface area, relative 
incompressibility and chemical stability. It has poor conductivity for acoustics ,thermal, electrical, non-toxic and tasteless.

Natural freshwater diatomaceous earth is used in horticulture for grain storage as an anticaking agent, as well as an
insecticide.It is approved by the Food and Drug Administration as a feed additive to prevent caking.
Use in Aquarium Filter 
Diatomaceous earth filter that can be used to clean the water as it gets cloudy from food and waste.

Use in Hydroponics
Freshwater diatomite can be used as a growing medium in hydroponic gardens.
